Extra Dark Peppermint Fondants
For almost three decades, Summerdown has been growing a very special plant on their family farm in the rolling Hampshire countryside: the rare Black Mitcham peppermint. With a lot of patience, sustainable cultivation and great dedication, they have managed to breathe new life into this powerful English mint variety - and give it a permanent home. The origin? A trip in 1995. Sir Michael Colman was fascinated by the intense, pure taste of Black Mitcham mint - a variety that was once native to England but had long been thought to have disappeared. He discovered a few surviving plants in the USA, took cuttings back home and, together with farm manager Ian, began an experiment that became a passion.
What once began on a tennis court-sized field is now a mint plantation covering over 100 hectares - and home to what is probably the purest peppermint oil in the world. Every single one of the mint products - whether award-winning chocolates, teas, scented candles or room fragrances - is based on the specially distilled, barrel-matured peppermint oil.
When you walk through the fields on a summer's day, you can feel it immediately: this refreshing clarity, this incomparably cool intensity. Summerdown Mint sharpens the senses, brings you into the here and now - and adds a touch of real nature to every product.
